Osprey Causing Outages In Roane County

VEC crews are working to correct a problem with nesting Osprey that have been causing blinks and outages for about 800 customers in the Ten Mile area of southern Roane County.

Starting last week, Osprey began taking up residence on top of VEC power poles and debris falling from their nests have caused flashes on VEC power lines below. Crews are installing deterrent devices on the tops of poles in an effort to move the birds to a different location.

The task has been complicated because often the birds just move from the pole that has the deterrent device installed to another nearby power pole. VEC apologizes for any inconveniences the outages may cause and crews will continue to work on the problem until power reliability has been restored.
