PHONE SCAM ON THE PLATEAU

Volunteer Energy Cooperative Customers and non-customers who live in the Sparta, TN area are receiving a phone call stating they will be disconnected if they do not pay their past due immediately. They are given a number to call 1-877-886-0599 that has the very same recording that we use for the IVR. The only difference is that choosing options numbers does not work. You are directed to leave a message for a callback. It is NOT VEC. This is a sophisticated phone scamming technique. We have reported it to the FCC but please be careful and check with your local VEC office number regarding questionable calls.
