Report an Outage
How do I report a power outage?
The VEC phone number can be found in your telephone book, on this web site, and on the back of your monthly billing statement.
Reporting a Power Outage – Smart Phones and Other Mobile Devices
Using the VEC SmartHub® app, you can click on “Service Status” to quickly and easily report your outage to dispatchers. This app is available from both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. You can also provide additional information about the outage directly from the mobile device.
Reporting a Power Outage – VEC Web Site and VE-Bill
There are outage reporting links on the VEC web site (www.vec.org), including VE-Bill pages. Just click on a link, log on to your VE-Bill account, and outage information will be sent directly to VEC dispatchers.
Reporting a Power Outage – Phone Calls
VEC’s Interactive Voice Response (IVR) phone system is another automated way to immediately send your outage report to dispatchers. Call your local VEC office and follow the prompts. You will need the account number or the phone number associated with the account in order to access this system. Using this system, you also have the option to talk directly with a VEC representative; however, please be aware that during times of high call volume this option may increase your wait time substantially and delay your outage reporting.
Reporting a Power Outage – Email and Social Media
Please do not use email or social media to report your outage. These communication tools are not continually monitored, so the report of your power outage may be delayed. For fastest service call or use the VEC SmartHub® app.
VEC uses the Outage Management System, a system that allows your outage to be automatically recorded so that crews can be dispatched more efficiently.
When you call your VEC office, the Outage Management System attempts to look up your account matching the phone number you are calling from and the number that is listed in our records. If a match cannot be found, you will be prompted to enter additional information such as a phone number or account number. The system will make every attempt to record your outage automatically before it sends your call to be personally answered. Please be assured that the most efficient method of reporting an outage is being used.
The VEC area covers all or parts of 17 counties. During times of widespread outages, please keep in mind that phone lines may be busy. We ask your patience; we are doing everything possible to ensure that outage information is being dispatched to crews and your outage will be repaired as quickly as possible.
