Thunderstorms Result in Multiple Outages in McMinn and Meigs Counties
On Wednesday night the 13th of July, a localized thunderstorm went through both Meigs and McMinn Counties. Damp soil and strong winds resulted in a large tree coming down on 69KV power transmission lines. The pressure from the lines bent three steel poles almost in half. Crews worked quickly to divert the power to three different substations providing temporary power to members served from the affected area. Crews continued to work replacing transmission poles and were able to set them by late Thursday evening (despite another serious band of thunderstorms that affected the entire VEC service area). During one stretch of time there were more than 4,000 members without power, but our linemen and servicemen worked tirelessly until power was restored.
