VEC Experiences Record Demand for Electricity

As temperatures plummet to record lows, the demand for electricity across Volunteer Energy Cooperative’s service area has skyrocketed to record highs.

Some blink outages and scattered outages have occurred all across VEC’s 17-county service area. Crews have been working throughout the night to keep power flowing. As of 8:38 Eastern Time, outages have been reported in Hamilton, Fentress, Bradley, Meigs, and Polk counties.

The majority of outages are “blink” outages caused when equipment overheats due to the extremely high demand for electricity. More serious outages have been caused when overheated power lines sag into neutral/ground lines.

VEC apologizes for any inconveniences and crews will remain on the job as long as necessary to restore power to every VEC customer.
